Carolyn from www.cazinc.com.au has generously allowed me to publish her pattern for beanies in 3 ply and 8 ply wool.

Beanie Pattern for 2 sizes

Using 3mm needles and 3ply baby wool, or 4mm for 8ply wool, cast on 46 (small) or 51 (larger) stitches.

  1. Knit 8 rows garter stitch (straight knitting).
  2. Continue on, knitting stocking stitch (stockinette) until work measures 8.5cm (small) or 9cm (larger) from beginning.
  3. Next row: knit 1, (knit 2 together, knit 3) until the end. (37, 41)
  4. Stocking stitch for 3 rows.
  5. Next row: knit 1, (knit 2 together, knit 2) until end. (28, 31)
  6. Stocking stitch for 3 rows.
  7. Next row: knit 1, (knit 2 together, knit 1) until end. (19, 21)
  8. Purl one row.
  9. Next row: knit 1, knit 2 together until end. (10, 11)
  10. Purl one row.
  11. Next row: smaller size only: knit 2 until end (5)
  12. larger size: knit 1, knit 2 together until end. (6)
  13. Purl one row.
  14. Next row. smaller size: knit 1, knit 2 together twice (3)
  15. larger size: knit 2 together until end. (3)
  16. Next row: purl 3 together.
  17. Sew seams together.
